EXTENDED FAMILY - SULFUR CRESTED COCKATOO

The Sulfur Crested Cockatoos came to visit us for the first time a couple of months after we moved in to where we are living.

There were two Cockatoos to begin with, and we christened them Kev and Julia because they made a lot of noise, and not much of it made sense.

We had only ever seen Sulfur Crested Cockatoos from a distance before we met Kev and Julia, but to see them up close, the detail of their feathers, the tinge of yellow on their face and to feel the air swish from their wings as they flew close to us was and continues to be spectacular.

Soon after Kev and Julia began to visit, they brought some friends and we can have between 3 to 9 cockatoos visit us when they come (but now and then we will be inundated with a large flock!).

The frequency the Cockatoos come to visit can vary, but on average it is at least between 1 to 2 times a week. Our Cockatoos are relatively well behaved and don’t eat into the wood of the balcony and rail unlike some at other homes!

Joe Daniel, Angel Hope and Marie Henrietta love to watch the Cockatoos up close through the screen door and occasionally pounce at the screen door as the Cockatoos are brave enough to venture close by to greet them.
