The Siamese Cat

The Siamese Cat is native to Thailand and the breed has reportedly been around for a very long time. The first reported mention of Siamese Cats from the 14th and 18th Century where they were written about in manuscripts estimated to have been written in and around those Centuries.

The name Siamese is derived from the previous name of Thailand, which was Siam. Siamese Cats are thought to be cats that were kept by Siam Royalty, but it is not clear if there is any evidence backing it up. However here at JUSTSIAMESE.COM we think it sounds pretty good, and Marie Henrietta is most certainly a Princess!

The Siamese Cat made its entrance into other countries in the world. Some of the first owners of Siamese Cats that are remembered include:

  • In 1878, American President Rutherford receiving what is thought to be the first Siamese Cat in America.

  • In 1884, A British Consul-General in Bangkok gave his sister in Britain, Lilian Veley, a breeding pair of Siamese Cats and she subsequently co-founded the ‘Siamese Cat Club’ in 1901

Subsequently more Siamese cats were brought into the UK by other Siamese Cat Parents. In the following years from around the 1950’s to 60’s the breed characteristics were altered through selective breeding practices and there are now two Types of Siamese Cat, known as the Traditional and the Modern. Siamese Cats subsequently spread around the World into the homes of Cat Parents, like us here at JUSTSIAMESE.COM

Joe Daniel and Marie Henrietta are ‘Modern’ Siamese Cats and this is the Breed Type which is most commonly around today and as such, the one we describe. Please click on the links below to see the Siamese Breeders in Autsralia (& Honoaryray Suamese Breeders - Russian Blue).

Personality Characteristics

Some Personality Characteristics of Siamese Cats include:

  • Intelligence – Need I say more!

  • Talkative – Joe Daniel and Marie Henrietta are more talkative than Angel Hope, particularly when they are looking at their outdoor friends (the birdies) and when they want some attention.

  • Affection & Attention Seekers – Siamese Cats are very affectionate and love being around their Cat Parents and spending time with them. We at JUSTSIAMESE.COM have heard that Siamese Cats typically form a stronger bond with one member of the family than others. However in our experience Joe Daniel and Marie Henrietta, each have their own special relationship with Mum and Dad. For example, Joe Daniel loves to follow Dad around the home, but loves a cuddle on Mum’s tummy every morning.

  • Playful – Running around the home and playing with toys, Cat Parents and each other
