Organ =

Spleen – This organ completes the following Specialised Tasks:

  • Removing old / damaged red blood cells

  • Storing red blood cells (controlling blood levels).

  • Reviewing the bloodstream for the presence of illness causing agents

  • Storing white blood cells which fight infection and disease.

Body System =

The Lymphatic System: Organs in this system include the Spleen and the Thymus (organ where a type of White Blood Cell matures). Other parts of Lymphatic System are:

  • Bone Marrow (soft tissue inside bones where white blood cells are made),

  • Lymph Nodes (small sections of tissue spread throughout the body that produce and store White Blood Cells);

  • Lymphatic Vessels (A delivery system of vessels)

  • Tonsils, Adenoids and Appendix are made from lymphatic tissue.

The Certain Activity of the Lymphatic System is to produce mature white blood cells that are circulated around the body in a clear liquid called lymph stopping at lymph nodes (to be filtered) along the way. The white blood cells fight and remove infection / disease encountered in the lymph and bloodstream.
